In this Finviz review of their stock screener I’ll give you detailed information about Finviz functions, costs and the top features. I’ve been an active Finviz user since 2008. Do you know what finviz.com looked back in 2008? Let’s see.

I’m not lying I am not lying, this is how Finviz looked in 2008!

Crude Oil at 101.84, EUR/USD at 1.5432 and the Dow Jones at 11,847.25, which is like travelling in the past with Marty McFly just Back to the Future.

What is the reason an screening device for stocks is still exactly the same 10 years after? This is due to the fact that the benefits are still there and are unmatched in the field of screeners for stocks.

Most of the improvements occur in the background through the addition of new features and larger databases to enhance customer experience, without altering the actual product. If you were able to understand the best way to utilize it you’ll also be able to use the product 10 years from now.

    It’s good to know:

To take things one level higher, I wrote a detailed article on how to use Finviz stock which is available on this page: How to use Finviz

    What exactly is Finviz?

Finviz is among the most effective stock screeners available to investors and traders. It is accessible for free, and available in a pro version known as Finviz Elite. It’s a privately-held company that was founded by Juraj Duris in the month of June 2007. Finviz refers to “financial visualizations” and around 18.75 million people visit Finviz’s website each month.

    Features

Finviz is well-known because of its simple design. However, Finviz is much more robust than you would think to experience the first time.

    Fast Search

Input a symbol for a stock such as “AAPL” within the upper left corner of the search box.

It only takes just a few seconds to see the results grouped into three major categories:

On the left hand side corner, you can choose to:

    • Publish a chart
    • Keep it in the portfolio
    • Create an alert

It is possible to use the “publish chart” option is available for free. You must have at minimum the Free Finviz account to add stocks to a portfolio. To create an alert, you need Finviz Elite.

    Three chart types are offered:

    • Line, candle and advanced charts available for free and
    • Interactive charts and performance-based charts available for Finviz Elite users.

You can also alter the timeframe in the upper right corner to switch between weekly, daily, and monthly with the free Finviz version, as well as live intraday charts using Finviz Elite.

There are also various key figures available just below the chart, like P/E, Dividends, and various performance figures.

Finally, various Finviz news sources are listed at the very bottom of the results page for each stock.

    Charting types:

    • Candle (Free)
    • Line (Free)
    • Advanced (Free)
    • Interactive (Elite)
    • Performance (Elite)

    Time Frames:

    • Intraday (Elite)
    • Daily (Free)
    • Weekly (Free)
    • Monthly (Free)

Do you require more information regarding the features available and how to utilize Finviz? If so, then follow the guide below:

    Finviz News

The newsfeed is a source of the latest stories and news according to the news and blogs, which are either chronologically arranged or when you choose – according to origin. The media sources include well-known ones like Bloomberg, CNN, MarketWatch among others. Additionally, numerous prominent financial blogs are on the list.

    Stock Screener Finviz

Finviz’s stock screener could not exist without this amazing feature. The screener that comes with the stock version is the majority to 90% of the features Finviz is about. Other devices are wonderful but the stock screener is the place where Finviz excels. The Screener is a sophisticated tool that lets users sort and track the stocks according to a variety of criteria:

    • descriptive (like price on the market such as market capitalization, price or stock market)
    • fundamental (like P / E, EPS growth, debt ratio, net profit margin, etc.) or
    • indicator of technical nature (among these chart patterns, candles as well as RSI ranges).

The results are then further sorted by applying many criteria. There are over 60 criteria that can be used. Adjusted to various settings the thousands of filters can be created to further refine the performance of the screener currently in use.

The most efficient Finviz filter settings for screeners are included in my tutorial on how to make use of Finviz. There is no need for Finviz Elite to use the various filters, however you will require Finviz Elite to create price alerts, and then export the results using the click of “export” at the bottom right-hand corner. In addition, you’ll need Finviz Elite to take a more in-depth look at the data.

Also, besides the data export and statistics functionality, Finviz Elite also comes with advanced charts and even more customizable filters like market cap ranges, P/E ranges, etc.

Programs like MS Excel are still the best way to crunch the data. If you export all data every day, then you can also create your own alternative to Yahoo finance API. Just collect the data, build your own database, and make the right investment decision at the right time.

    Finviz Heat Maps

Let’s continue with this Finviz screener review, by looking more closely into the Finviz heat maps function. It quickly gives an overview of the tool’s visuals.

They display which stocks are trending in which direction (red means falling, green means rising) and also the significance of the market (area of). Maps can be chosen for S&P500 or World Stock. Industries (Technology Consumer, Financial, etc.) and ETFs.

    Groups

The Groups tab offers a summary of groups.

    • Sectors
    • Industries
    • Countries
    • Capitalization

that are displayed as falling and rising in accordance with the criteria overview ratings, performance, or as a custom. In addition, the data presented as tables can be seen as bar charts or spectrum (display) and grid (display) and also as charts. You can select between a variety of timespans and combinations of different options.

I do not use this functionality that much, but it provides clear visual guidance on how sectors and industries perform each given day or on a larger time frame. If you like to stay with the trend of the indices like the S&P and on top of that with a sector, then Finviz helps you to understand the data better with visualization.

    Portfolio

The portfolio function is available only exclusively to Finviz Elite subscribers. In the next Finviz review, I’ll be discussing Finviz Elite in depth. You will also discover all the essential information concerning this part of the Finviz portfolio.

    Insider

This list will be published in descending order , as of the announcement date from the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). It is classified and filtered based on sales or buy transactions in addition to other criteria such as:

    • The Latest Insider Trading
    • Top Insider Trading in the Recent Week
    • Top 10% Owner Trading by the Current Week

    Futures

The menu feature “Futures” offers investors brief overviews of their options through the representation of colored tiles. This is as it occurs on the futures market. Futures charts from Finviz are accessible when you hover over the price, or clicking it.

Included are the prominent indices, commodities, bonds, precious metals, and currencies. The different hues in green or red indicate the daily performance in the positive and negative range.

The data on price is displayed in a large font, which includes the highest and lows. A daily chart of performance ranging from the light-green (top the performance) up to the lightest dark red (worst performances) is displayed below those for the future.

As a day trader, you should use this free feature to check the markets before the open. It is important to understand the market sentiment, and the futures indicate how the market will open.

    Forex

Based on the same approach similar to those of the futures market, we’ve put together a brief review of the most important currencies.

Current prices can be displayed as tiles. In addition, the performance data for the tiles can be displayed as a table, including a column diagram (tops and flops) or in each case only as charts.

    Crypto

There are currently charts and performance figures for 15 cryptocurrency types, and TradingView broadcasts around 200 of the cryptocurrencies. The transparent tiled display is based on the same method in relation to the forex value.

This is just another nice financial visualization feature.

    Backtests

The backtesting option is available only to those who pay Finviz Elite customers.

    Here are some advantages:

    • 100 technical indicators that can be backtested
    • possibility to compare the results to SPY benchmark and SPY benchmark and
    • sixteen years worth of data from the historical databases

Let’s go straight into the Finviz Elite advantages. What is the value of Finviz Elite worth it? The following paragraphs will provide the answer to that question!

    Finviz Elite Review

The Finviz version for free includes a variety of wonderful features. Investors may be satisfied with the version that is free. However, if you’re trader, Finviz Elite provides a great benefit for a small cost.

If you’re looking to develop the database of your choice or connect to an existing system that holds an enormous amount in data Finviz Elite provides tons of data to help you with these. Let’s take it step-by-step through the following Review of Finviz Elite.

    These are Finviz Elite advantages:

    Live and pre-market data

First, Finviz Elite comes with real-time data , and it also gives accessibility to the session prior to sale. It is worth noting that the Finviz Elite subscriptions already include the cost of access to the feed. Typically, the data feed for futures and stocks is more expensive monthly than Finviz Elite.

It is a nice benefit having rea-time data in all section at Finviz.com. If you are long term investors, then other Finviz Elite features are more beneficial for you.
