Types of salt available on the market
When we consider health issues today, we see many articles devoted to the effects of salt. It is on the market today in various forms, each with different content depending on its use, taste, and origin. One claims to be better than the other in terms of mineral content and processability. So we need to know what we consume daily and if there are better alternatives.
Salt.
This is what we buy in stores and consume every day. It is the cheapest available and we use it mostly for cooking. It mainly consists of sodium chloride with iodine added. It is currently produced by evaporating sea water or salt water. It is usually extracted from brine wells using the energy of sunlight. It is used not only for cooking but also as an ingredient in pulp, paper, and soap. Recently, it has caused a number of health problems, most notably high blood pressure.
Kosher Salt.
It is characterized by larger particle size and a more open-grain structure. The particles are larger and do not contain additives that can cloud the curing fluid.
Sea Salt.
This is considered superior in terms of taste and consistency. It is also a coarse, unprocessed sea salt that contains many minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and sulfate. It usually does not contain high concentrations of iodine, an important element for human health, and is not necessarily a healthy substitute for regular sea salt.
Black salt.
This salt is usually found in Indian markets and sounds unfamiliar to people in other countries. It is characterized by a strong flavor. In its unprocessed form, it has a pinkish-gray color and a strong sulfuric taste. In traditional Ayurveda medicine, it is considered a refreshing spice.
Bamboo salt.
Prepared from bamboo, it contains various minerals that are good for our bodies. It is borrowed from traditional Korean medicine. It is believed to contain the beneficial properties of salt, bamboo and ochre mixed during roasting. To enhance its health benefits, it is roasted 3-9 times with bamboo before it becomes edible.
Rock Salt.
This is also known as gravel and is not suitable for consumption. A mineral form of sodium chloride (NaCl), usually colorless to yellow, sometimes light blue, dark blue or pink depending on the amount and type of impurities. It is mainly used in the production of ice cream. It is also used to clear snow from highways during the winter.
